A former Asheboro Police officer with over 20 years of experience with the department died recently, according to a social media post by APD.

Charles "Chuckie" Spencer served the Asheboro Police Department for 20-plus years after starting on the force in 2003. He last served with the department as a lieutenant.

"Everyone who knew Chuckie would say that he was a man of faith, had a heart for people and would do anything to help others," the Asheboro Police Department said in a statement. "He served the community faithfully as an officer and citizen, and he was well-known and loved by so many. Please keep Chuckie's family on your hearts and in your prayers."

After leaving the Asheboro Police Department, Spencer opened Grit and Grunt Uniform and Tactical in Lexington, a store that sold uniforms for officers, first responders and firefighters.

The Asheboro Police Department didn't release any details about the cause of Spencer's death. Funeral arrangements will be shared on the department's Facebook page when they are finalized.
