Asheboro police chief set to retire after more than 30 years of service

Chief Mark Lineberry will retire on March 1, according to the City of Asheboro.

ASHEBORO, N.C. — After decades of service the Asheboro police chief will be retiring.

Chief Mark Lineberry will retire on March 1, according to the City of Asheboro.

Chief Lineberry served the city of Asheboro for nearly 32 years.

Chief Lineberry joined the Asheboro Police Department in May 1992.

He worked as a patrol officer and a detective.

In October 2001, he was promoted to Sergeant.

He was selected as Chief of Police in October 2019.

During this time, he implemented Body Worn Cameras into the department, hosted 'Cooking with a Cop' community events, provided Narcan for officers to utilize in the field, and led the department during the COVID pandemic.

Assistant Chief Robbie Brown will take on the role of Chief of Police and Major Jay Hanson will take over the role of Assistant Chief on March 1.
