GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Troopers arrested an Asheboro man in a deadly hit-and-run on I-73.

On Tuesday, State Highway Patrol charged 33-year-old Bradford Melendez with felony hit-and-run. He was brought before a magistrate at the Guilford County Jail in Greensboro.

The crash happened on April 17 sometime after 7 a.m. on I-73 South near Steeple Chase Road in Guilford County. Troopers said a man was walking south along the highway when a vehicle hit him. They said the driver took off.

The victim, 55-year-old Clyde Strickland, of Raeford, NC, died from his injuries days after the crash.

Melendez received a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court later in May.
