Greensboro woman arrested for hit-and-run that hurt 15

A woman is facing multiple charges including felony hit & run.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A woman has been arrested for hitting and hurting multiple people, including NC A&T students, with her car on March 29 in Greensboro, police say.

Police said Zamyria Nicole Maness, 20, was served warrants for her arrest Monday. She faces multiple charges including 15 counts of felony hit and run.

On Wednesday, WFMY spoke with Elvis Casey who lives just a few streets down from where the crash happened. He said his grandson was at the party and when he saw the car plowing through the crowd he just took off running.

“He said people was trying to go over the train tracks and you couldn’t get through because it was too many people and too many cars and that’s when whoever it was just bolted and started running over people," Casey said. "I'm glad they got em, because they might do it again. and you know I hate it for the people that got hurt."

A Guilford County Judge placed Maness' bond at $100,000 and her next day in court is scheduled for Aug. 7.

On March 29, around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to South Eugene and West Whittington Streets about a large-scale gathering and disturbance on and near a parking lot area.

Nearly an hour later, while the large crowd was dispersing, Maness was going east on West Whittington Street hitting multiple pedestrians on the road and did not stop at the crash scene. The car she was driving was reported stolen by the registered owner and was later found abandoned at a separate location.

The victims all suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson with NC A&T confirmed that 4 of injured were students and that the crash was not associated with the university or campus events.

Before the crash, Greensboro police officers were in the area to assist with crowd control and traffic. Police said there were no incidents involving any GPD officer regarding the use of force or the initiation of any pursuit.
