Another Earthquake? 1.8 Magnitude Quake Hits Near NC/Virginia Border

The earthquake was about 40 miles northeast of Boone, North Carolina, just north of the North Carolina/Virginia border.

INDEPENDENCE, Va. — Did you feel or hear something rattle Sunday morning? It was another earthquake for our area!

A 1.8 magnitude earthquake hit Independence, Virginia Sunday morning according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The small earthquake was about 40 miles northeast of Boone, North Carolina, just north of the North Carolina/Virginia border. 

It hit just after 4:30 a.m.

The USGS confirmed a 2.6 magnitude earthquake near Archdale just after midnight Tuesday. The epicenter was near the Guilford/Randolph County border. Some people felt the earthquake as far away as Raleigh and Charlotte according to a USGS map
