Alamance-Burlington Schools confirmed a student was hit by a car near Edwin M Holt Elementary School Wednesday afternoon.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, NC - Alamance-Burlington Schools confirmed a student was hit by a car while getting off a bus near Edwin M Holt Elementary School Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday morning, the North Carolina Highway Patrol concluded that the school bus driver didn't activate the stop arm and warning lights to indicate someone was getting off. Highway Patrol said the child is in serious condition at UNC-Chapel Hill hospital.

The school system says the employee driving the bus resigned Thursday.
