ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A lawsuit was filed against the Alamance-Burlington School System.

The documents alleged that Cummings High School and a teacher did not do enough to prevent a stabbing in 2022.

A student and her family claimed the district did not have policies to identify and address threats properly.

WFMY News 2 crews reached out to the Burlington Police Department and received a copy of an incident report that said a stabbing took place on Oct. 11., 2022 at Cummings High.

Burlington police charged a teenage girl with assault and having a weapon on school grounds.

ABSS released the following statement regarding this lawsuit:
Alamance-Burlington School System has trained sworn law-enforcement officers as school resource officers on all our campuses. All District schools have staff members who are trained through North Carolina's Communication and Deescalation Intervention program. However, we cannot respond or comment on pending litigation.

The family has a list of claims in the lawsuit and is seeking damages from the district because of the incident.
