Driver charged in school bus crash in Alamance County, NCSHP says

District officials said the bus driver "blacked out" due to a medical emergency. State Highway Patrol said they have since charged the driver.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A driver is charged and two people were injured after a school bus crashed into a house in Alamance County Friday, NC State Highway Patrol said.

Alamance-Burlington School System officials said the bus ran off the road, hit a house, and landed in a yard around 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of Gibsonville Ossipee Road and Shepard Road.

District officials said the bus driver "blacked out" due to a medical emergency.

School officials said eight students were on board ranging from middle to high school students.

No students were injured.

The bus driver and the assistant were injured and taken to a hospital, according to school officials.

Troopers said they charged the bus driver with failure to maintain lane control.

The bus was an exceptional children's bus where they typically have an assistant on board, officials said.

The bus driver has worked since 2012.

Alamance Fire and EMS are on the scene for about two hours.

ABSS officials said the North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
