Man found dead inside burning house in Reidsville

Reidsville fire chief says a neighbor said the house was abandoned but noticed a squatter living in it.

REIDSVILLE, N.C. — The Reidsville Fire Department was called to Sunset Street Tuesday night in reference to a house fire.

The call came in just before midnight. Fire crews arrived at the scene and saw flames and smoke coming from the house.

Although the home appeared abandoned, a neighbor said a squatter had been living in the home. Fire crews entered the house and found a dead man inside the home.

The Rockingham County Arson Task Force was activated to assist with the fire investigation. Fire and police crews cleared the scene around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. This investigation is ongoing.
