SURRY COUNTY, N.C. — Detectives are investigating after an 8-year-old was found dead in Surry County Friday.
The Surry County Sheriff's Office said they received a call about an unresponsive child who was not breathing on Old Lowgap Road shortly before 1 p.m.
When deputies and first responders arrived on the scene, they found the child dead from a gunshot wound.
Deputies at the scene requested the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Division and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
Deputies said this was an isolated incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
