8-Year-Old Girl Waiting For School Bus With Her Sibling Dies After Being Hit by Driver in Randolph County: NCSHP

8-year-old Ayanna Ja'Nae Jiminez Crump was hit and killed at her school bus stop Monday morning. Her sibling who was beside her was unharmed, NCSHP says.

FRANKLINVILLE, N.C. — An 8-year-old girl died Monday morning in an accident while at her bus stop in Randolph County.

Ayanna Ja'Nae Jiminez Crump was waiting for the bus with her sibling just before 7 a.m. on the 2400 block of Whites Memorial Road. For an unknown reason, Jiminez Crump darted into the path of a 2014 Jeep Wrangler, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP). 

The child died at the scene after being hit by the driver of the jeep. Her sibling witnessed the unfortunate accident.

The driver isn't facing any charges, NCSHP confirms.

Randolph County Schools released a statement on the death Monday afternoon:

“The Randolph County School System is deeply saddened by the loss of Ayanna Ja’nae Jimenez Crump, a third-grade student at Grays Chapel Elementary School. On behalf of our school system and Board of Education, I want to express my condolences to the family of this wonderful child. In addition, our thoughts and prayers are with Ayanna’s classmates and staff members at Grays Chapel Elementary School as well as other individuals in our school system and community affected by this tragedy. In an effort to support students and staff members, counseling services will be made available for students and staff members on school campuses.”
