Statesville, NC -- Authorities have arrested and charged a 65-year-old Statesville woman in the slayings of two couples last year. Barbara Ann Evans, who was arrested Tuesday, was charged with four counts of murder. The Iredell County Sheriff's Office has not provided a motive for the killings and has not said whether Evans knew the victims. Evans is charged in the January 2005 deaths of James Powell, 74, and his wife Ruth Delet Powell, 71, and in the September killings of Don Barker, 62, and his wife Sue Barker, 63. All four victims were shot in their homes and the sheriff's office has said they were killed with the same gun. Authorities said the couples did not know each other, but there were a few links. Both couples lives in mostly rural areas in Iredell County and the male victims were current or former convenience store owners. The daughter of one victim said her father knew Evans' late husband, according to WCNC-TV in Charlotte.
