Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) — A 4-year-old girl is dead after a house fire in Orangeburg on Thursday morning.
The call came in around 12:30a.m. from a neighboring home on Green Street in Orangeburg.
Captain Alfred Alexander with the Department of Public Safety said when first responders arrived they were told the 4-year-old was still inside the home.
She was found in a bedroom and was given CPR outside. She later died, according to Captain Alexander.
The girl's mother, Crystal Fisher, is being treated at Augusta Burn Center for her injuries. Another child from the home was treated and released from an area hospital, according to the Captain.
Next door neighbors Caroline Smith and William Boyd said they heard Fisher yelling for help from her front lawn. They called 911 and said first responders were on the scene quickly.
The two said smoke was billowing from the house.
Smith and Boyd told WLTX they were close with their neighbors and often shared holiday dinners.
"She was so sweet and kind, every time she'd see me she'd say 'Hey Ms. Carolina, hey Mr. William," Smith said about the 4-year-old.
"We called them our kids also," Smith said, referencing the two children inside the home.
Smith and Boyd added the neighborhood, nor Christmas, would be the same this year.
"Tears is running down my face, but she's in a better place now," Smith said.
