Three from Archdale were killed in a violent car crash in Utah while on vacation

SCIPIO, UTAH - Three family members from Archdale died in a car crash Tuesday night near Scipio, Utah while another teen is in critical condition.

KUTV reports, the accident happened when a white SUV hit a black Ford Focus head-on while trying to pass a semi-truck on state Route 50 just before 9 p.m. Police said the driver in the SUV might have been distracted by a dog in the car.

The SUV flipped upside down while the Focus was knocked back and off the road. Both cars caught fire and those inside were pinned in, unable to escape. Someone stopped to help, cutting out the seat belts of those in the SUV.

Police said the family from Archdale including Tyrone Bova, 47, Holly Jo Bova, 43 and Haden Bova, 11 all died from the crash.

Haden Bova died while being transported to Primary Children's Hospital. Tyrone and Holly Jo Bova were sitting in the front of the car and killed instantly. A 17-year-old male passenger who was in the same vehicle is in "very critical condition," police said. Investigators are looking into whether speed and or other distractions played a role in the crash.

A woman, 9-year-old and a dog were in the SUV. The woman is considered stable while the child is in critical condition. The dog did not survive.

The stretch of road was closed for several hours.

The Bova family was in Utah for a vacation. Scipio Utah Fire and EMS said the incident was a 'tragic event.'
