Why going to bed early can help you save money

Spoiler alert, you can't take your phone with you!

GREENSBORO, N.C. — At the top of the New Year's Resolutions list is usually something with money.

Saving money is not the same as not spending money.  Saving money has more of an "I'm doing something good vibe". But not spending money has an "I'm sacrificing and doing without negative vibe".

"And those very restrictive kind of rules that people make for themselves don't work. And if anything, maybe they do work for a few days, but then they backfire. And once you fall off the wagon, you just really can't get back on. So the better ways to save money have to do with more positive things that you can do instead of restricting. So instead of telling yourself that you can't spend you have to stop thinking about what you actually maybe wanna spend more on or what you can do instead of spending money, that will make you feel good," said Charlotte Cowels, Columnist New York Magazine's The Cut

The New York columnist says she talked to a lot of money experts and one of the more interesting things she learned was from their behavior that had nothing directly to do with money.  The experts said in this new year, they were concentrating on taking a walk, going to bed early, and staying off the phone at night to help them save money.

"That's because I don't know about you, but before bed is when I like to squirrel around on the internet or scroll through Instagram, which is just an online mall at this point, as we all know. And that tends to be when you make a lot of impulse, impulsive decisions, impulse shopping," said Cowels.
