STOKES CO., NC -- The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles closed down the one license plate agency in Stokes county.
The reason behind the closure was inappropriate activities including falsifying of documents. Drivers will need to go to Kernersville, Rural Hall or Madison until a new operator is found.
This isn't the first time the D-M-V has had to shut down an agency:
- In 2012-- the Chapel Hill license plate agency was shut down after the operator was charged with embezzling state money.
- In 2007 -- the Thomasville agency shut down when the owner was convicted of forging title applications.
North Carolina has 121 license plate agencies. 100 of them are run by private contractors.
