‘Palmetto Bugs’ Are Back, Here Are 3 Ways To Get Rid Of Cockroaches

The age of your home doesn't matter; the creepy critters can find a way inside.

This is a story that might make your skin crawl.

Warmer temperatures have brought out the bugs, including everyone's nemesis, the American cockroach, a.k.a, the Palmetto Bug.

The age of your home doesn't matter; the creepy critters can find a way inside. That is, unless you follow these three home hacks, courtesy of Ben Shoemaker at NuEra pest control.

  1. Keep your gutters clean. "Make sure that water is free flowing," said Shoemaker, who says he offers free home inspections.
  2. A clean yard is a cockroach's worst nightmare; keeping your bushes trimmed and debris away from the house is the best way to keep palmetto bugs in palmetto trees.
  3. Make sure there is no standing water in the crawl space or attic.

“Moisture is key to controlling these bugs. If you have a lot of moisture and around the house then you’re probably going to have a problem with these roaches,” said Shoemaker.
