GREENSBORO, N.C. — Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act is now here. It's open until January 15, 2024. You can now enroll in, re-enroll in, or change health plans for the next plan year.
Those who need to re-enroll in Medicare can also do that until December 7, 2023. This period is only for people who are already on Medicare.
Coverage plans for both can start as early as January 1, 2024.
We had insurance experts on to clarify what happens during both of these periods and what people should look out for when enrolling in health insurance.
"If you have a Supplemental plan, or if you have an Advantage plan you need to be thinking about any changes you might want to make. Why you might want to make changes, is a change in your health care, drugs you're taking," said Catherine Sevier, NC AARP.
You can look at your options at Medicare.gov. There are several comparison tools and a handbook for this year.
Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan (or the other way around).
Compare your Part D prescription drug plan coverage to other options.
