GREENSBORO, N.C. — Senator JD Vance's town hall in Greensboro was moderated by former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick who said she's a first time voter who was motivated to support Trump and Vance. During the town hall, Vance talked about his plan to bring prices down and talked about his democratic opponents.
"They want you to live in a pod, eat bugs and own nothing. Fundamentally that's where their vision ultimately lands," Vance said.
He told more than 1,000 people in Greensboro that the Democratic economic plan would hurt the middle class.
"Why are things so expensive under Kamala Harris' leadership? There are a whole host of things that I could point to, but actually the most important is energy," Vance said. "Think about it like this. Groceries are 25% higher than they were three-and-a-half years ago. That's because the truck drivers are paying way more for diesel fuel and it's the truck drivers who are getting the groceries to the grocery store. Our farmers are paying more for diesel."
When former President Donald Trump left office in January 2021, the price of diesel was $2.64 per gallon. Today it's $3.58.
"The most important thing we've got to do to lower prices and make life more affordable is drill baby drill," Vance said.
Drilling more has already been the strategy of the Biden-Harris administration. According to Department of Energy records, the United States is now producing more oil now than any time during President Trump's term.
We're producing about 12.93 million barrels of oil a day compared to the high of 12.24 million barrels per day under Trump. The US also currently produces more oil than Russia, Saudi Arabia and China each do.
"We've got to unleash American energy," Vance said. "It really is so important."
