GREENSBORO, N.C. — Money is a big part of the Super Bowl from the cost of tickets to the cost of the commercials that play. And while our home team the Panthers aren't in the game, they're still able to raise money for local charities thanks to a program created by Summit Credit Union.
It's called "Join the Huddle". Summit Credit Union auctions off two tickets to the Carolina Panthers home games during the season. The money from the auction goes to one of these five charities: Hamilton Scholarship, Children's Miracle Network at Duke Children's Hospital, Backpack Beginnings here in Greensboro, The Wounded Warrior Project, or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
"Anyone who wants to can place a bid and 100% of the bid money goes to their charity of choice. It's been amazing to see the community support these five worthwhile causes," said James Grenon, VP of Administration, at Summit Credit Union.
In case you're interested in next year, the seats are on the lower level. Summit Credit Union will do this next season as well.
The workers at the various branches helped pick the five charities they wanted to support and then the person who wins the bid gets to pick one from those five.
"We are filling in the gaps to buy tangible basic needs that local school children and families are struggling with. We know food and gas prices are expensive and local families are looking for the provision of food or clothing diapers, hygiene products, school supplies, toys, and more for their children. We can only do that with the community support," said Parker White from Backpack Beginnings.
