Is The NC Dept Of Revenue Call For Real?

The give-a-ways that let you know a real call from a scheme call.

GREENSBORO, NC -- When the phone rings at home, do you even answer it?

Most people don't unless they recognize the number.

Just recently a 2WTK viewer let the answering machine pick up the call and they heard this:

"This is the North Carolina Department of Revenue. We have an important matter to discuss with you. Call 877-252-4962."

ID=22432107

Is that call for real? The answer is yes. 2WTK called the Department of Revenue and they do contact folks about financial matters by phone.

But here is the take away:

A real call will never ask for your personal information over the phone.

A real call will never ask you to wire money or pay off the debt right away with a pre-paid card.

A real call will never threaten you with immediate jail or arrest.

With that said, anytime you have a question about whether a call is real or not, the best thing to do is to look up the number for the business or agency on your own and call the main number. Never use the number provided by a caller unless you are 100-percent sure it is real.
