If You Have An Asus Laptop, You Need To Read This

Those constant updates are often the best way to beat hackers, and now they're using that to their advantage.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — You see the update prompts on your phone and your computer. but do you do them? Probably not. So when you hear scammers are sending fakes prompts to you, you're probably going to want to do it less. But updates are the main way to prevent hacks.

The latest fake update popup is called Operation ShadowHammer. And so far it's targeting Asus laptops. A Russia-based Security company found the scam. They say it looks like a routine software update and has misled more than 57-thousand consumers.

To protect yourself you need to have the most recent update version installed. Yes, you'll have to do the update. But not from the pop-up. Go to the Asus Download Center, click on "Enter Download Center" and search for your computer model in the drop-down menu. That will take you to the official support page where you can download a secure update.
