GREENSBORO, N.C. — There are cute little trinkets on the front porch. A couple chairs are parked perfectly so you can sit and watch the cars drive by, “I love it,” said Bobbie Anne.
The small but quaint 2-bedroom house sits on a corner lot in a quiet Greensboro neighborhood. The house comes with a nice backyard and more than enough space for one person, “I never thought I’d own a home again,” said Bobbie Anne.
At 78-years-old the substitute teacher had been looking for a small house with a yard since she wanted a dog, “It’s all I need,” said Bobbie Anne.
The home has worked out great even when it lost power for a day back in December, “I could here the (power) lines groaning,” said Bobbie Anne.
The power went out around 9:30 in the morning but Bobbie Anne says Duke Energy had a crew out by early afternoon and the power was working again by the evening, “They were certainly quick,” said Bobbie Anne.
There was just one problem, when crews came out to restore power, they left a sizable mess in Bobbie Anne’s backyard, “They were in the process of driving away when I came out,” said Bobbie Anne.
Workers apparently used a small maintenance vehicle to access the property and left tire ruts 8 inches deep in some places, “It looked like a mini Wreck-It-Ralph machine,” said Bobbie Anne.
Crews also crushed several of her pavers when they went in the backyard, “I didn’t even say they could go back there, they didn’t ask,” said Bobbie Anne.
When confronted Bobbie says the workers told her Duke would take care of the issue. She called and was in fact given a reference number and a date when someone would come out, “I had three scheduled appointments and every time the day came and went, and no one showed up,” said Bobbie Anne.
The issue occurred back in late December and by now it was the middle of February, “Someone said you ought to call 2 Wants to Know,” said Bobbie Anne.
After reaching out to us we called a Duke representative and explained the problem. A spokesperson for Duke thanked us for bringing it to his attention and told us he would investigate the matter.
Within three days a landscaper showed up to the property and repaired the ruts and planted new grass, “I am so happy I called (News 2),” said Bobbie Anne.
The stones that were damaged were also replaced as was a drainage extender.
Bobbie Anne says the best part about all this is that her dog can now go out and play in the backyard again, “It was a mud pit,” said Bobbie Anne.
