Ask the Mayor | Greensboro mayor Nancy Vaughn answers your questions

We discussed everything from crime to affordable housing and events happening around town.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It is ask the mayor day! Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan joined us live in the studio!

We discussed everything from crime to affordable housing and events happening around town.

The City Council in 2025 is going to look a lot different!

"I have announced that I am not going to run again. I believe the only other person who has specifically said they weren't going to run again is Mayor Pro-tem Yvonne Johnson. I'm not gonna speak for anybody else, but I think there is the potential for a significant turnover on the council and in some ways that concerns me very much because we have some very difficult issues that we've as a council been committed to moving forward. I don't want to lose that momentum. It is important that we capitalize on the announcements that we've made and make sure that we are getting our people back to work, that we are raising the standard of living in Greensboro and Guilford County and the surrounding region."

A viewer asked about affordable housing options in Greensboro:

"Affordable housing is probably our number one issue that we have. We really are at a crisis level. The city does not build housing, we help subsidize. It's up to the private sector and right now, unfortunately, it appears that they have found this to be a luxury apartment niche. We can't do anything when it comes to rent control or tell people that they have to put so many units aside, but we're working on it to see what is it that we can do to bring more units into Greensboro and Guilford County.

Are there any updates about the Interactive Resource Center?

"I believe that this week that they are starting with the private security, the city has been out there on a number of occasions trying to work through issues that they're having. We get a number of complaints from neighboring businesses, rightfully so, that their properties are being, are being targeted because people have no place to go so that they are using their bushes and all for bathroom facilities. And that's difficult. Once somebody leaves the IRC facility, it's not really the IRC's responsibility anymore, but it's our responsibility."
