Fort Bragg is warning about a fake deployment letter scam.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Editors note: Video is from 2018 FTC study about who is mostly likely to fall for a financial scam.

Fort Bragg is warning military families about a fake deployment letter scam.

The letter appears to be signed by Fort Bragg Garrison Commander COL Kyle Reed. It encourages families and friends of deployed service members to subscribe to a website called MilVPN-Usaf.

The scam website then tries to get you to register, select a plan, and make a payment in order to contact service members while deployed.

Fort Bragg officials say this is a scam.

Fort Bragg says family members who want more information on how to contact a service member who is deployed, should contact the service member's Family Readiness Liaison or chain of command.
