GREENSBORO, N.C. — You'll get a Facebook message saying: "there was a drawing to encourage the usage of Facebook worldwide." It goes on to explain you are one of 20 lucky winners to get $650,000.
Ummm....do you really think Facebook needs more usage? Even if you thought they did, here's the telltale signs something is really wrong:
The first the message asks you to fill out a form with all your personal information on it. (warning! warning! warning!)
Victims have reported the scammers follow up on that form and ask you to pay the taxes on your winnings in advance.(warning! warning! warning!)
A real contest, drawing or lottery will NEVER make you pay money to get the money, not in fees, taxes, etc. The NC Attorney General confirms paying to get your won prices is against the law.
If you ever get a message like this that seems a little fishy, but you're still hoping for the prize, take a moment to talk with your friends and family to see if they notice any red flags too. And feel free to reach out to 2WTK.
