Expert shares tips for home heating in the winter

Temperatures are dropping. Know this so your home heating doesn't fail

GREENSBORO, N.C. — We talked to Berico President Will Berry and Berico VP of HVAC services Brandon Fisher.

They're answered questions ranging from heating efficiency to donations to people in need of heating maintenance.

Here are my some tips they shared.

#1 Don't close vents in rooms you're not using. It doesn't make the house any warmer and it hurts the system.

#2 Open your blinds when it's sunny to let the warmth in.

#3 Change your air filters. It's no longer once a year. The Berico experts say to check and see what your air filter looks like every 30 days.

As temperatures continue to drop across the Triad, many will be cranking up the heat. Unfortunately, that isn’t always an option for the one in four Triad families who can’t afford to heat their homes.

Thankfully, Berico and the Salvation Army of Greensboro formed a partnership to get emergency help to families who need it. It’s called Gift of Warmth.

The Gift of Warmth has been able to assist over 1400 families through cold winter nights.
