Over the weekend, a German newspaper published what it says is a transcript of the cockpit voice recorder. The chilling transcript shows that while the pilot and co-pilot were going over landing procedures, the co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz used terms like "hopefully" and "we'll see."

A short time later, the pilot takes a bathroom break and Lubitz locked him out. The pilot tried to get back into the locked cockpit, even banging on the door.

The locked door can obviously be opened by the pilots inside the cockpit, but it can also be unlocked from the outside. There is a spy-hole to see inside the cockpit and the crew can manually override the lock using a keypad.

However, the problem with the manual override is that it can take up to five minutes. That would've given the co-pilot more than enough time to start his unexpected descend.
