2 Wants To Know already warned you to guard your keys. We told you about about KeysDuplicated.com. The website uses pictures to makes copies of keys. Well the site's creator said you should be just as concerned about something called a bump key.
It's supposed to open almost any deadbolt. And it's even cheaper at $3. Our question now: Do bump keys work?
We started by looking at what makes the bump key different. The ridges are all filed down. Supposedly when you bump that with a screw driver, it pushed pins inside the lock into the right places. Several online videos show it just takes seconds to use a bump key.
But when 2 Wants To Know's Ben Briscoe tried it -- major headache. After spending 15 minutes bumping and hitting and tapping that key every which way, he brought in help. In all five people tried the bump key, but it still didn't work.
And Greensboro police say bump keys aren't a huge concern. In fact, the last time officers remember one being used was 2009. So you probably don't have to worry about the kid down the street getting one. Maybe a professional criminal. But 2 Wants To Know can tell you bump keys takes serious skill.
