SILER CITY, NC -- Two people were hurt after crashing their plane near the Siler City Municipal Airport.
Ben Marion, the Assistant Manager with the Siler City Municipal Airport, said the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Marion said a man and his wife were flying from Moore County Airport in Southern Pines. They were preparing to land at the Siler City Airport but crashed in the woods nearby.
The couple was airlifted to the hospital in Chapel Hill, Marion said.
No word on the severity of their injuries, but Marion said the couple was aware and cognizant of what was going on.
Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board are headed to the scene to investigate the cause of the crash.
