North Carolina is offering $10,000 for help capturing an inmate on the loose since escaping six months ago.

The reward offered Wednesday is for 45-year-old Cul Priest Jones, who has been tied him to crimes in North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland. Gov. Roy Cooper's office says he is suspected of committing burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft.

Prison authorities have refused to explain how Jones escaped in October from Hoke Correctional Institution, where he was serving time for burglary.

Jones also escaped from prison in 1995 after shooting a sheriff's detective. He was captured in New York City.

Jones is described as a black man, 6 feet tall (1.8 meters), and weighing 184 pounds (83 kilograms) with black hair and brown eyes and who walks with a limp.
