LEXINGTON, N.C. -- Lexington police arrested 33-year-old Kareem Hisaun Williams on Friday after he led police on a chase and assaulted an officer. He's now facing 20 charges.
An officer pulled Williams over for a traffic stop at a convenience store on Cotton Grove Road. He was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. The police department said Williams ignored the officer, went into the store, then threatened and assaulted the officer. The officer then attempted to subdue Williams using pepper spray and a taser, but Williams was still able to get back in his car and drive away.
Lexington police chased Williams to the Char's restaurant parking lot on North Main Street. Officers said Williams continued to ignore and threaten officers in the parking lot before he was finally arrested. After his arrest, officers found a child in the backseat of Williams' car. Luckily, the child was not injured.
The first officer who Williams assaulted was sent to the hospital for his injuries, but has since been released. According to the department, the officer's injuries were not life threatening.
Here are the charges Williams is now facing from Friday:
- Expired registration
- Resisting a public officer
- Exceeding posted speed
- Assault on government official
- Fail to heed light and siren
- Flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle
- Fail to stop for red light
- Communicating threats
- Misdemeanor child abuse
On top of those charges, Williams faces another 11 charges from outstanding warrants. Those charges include:
- Felony possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine
- Felony sell of cocaine
- Felony possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana
- Felony sell of marijuana
- Assault on a female
- Injury to personal property (2 counts)
- Cyberstalking
- Second degree trespassing
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of marijuana
Williams is currently being held at the Davidson County Jail. His bond is set at $200,000.
