WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A fight broke out Tuesday night, prompting heavy police presence in Winston-Salem, according to police.
The Winston-Salem Police Department said that around 6:40 p.m., officers were called to the 1800 block of North Patterson Avenue about a fight with weapons. When officers arrived, they found nearly 200 people in the middle of the street. Due to the number of uncooperative people, additional officers were called to the scene.
Investigators said while officers were outside of their patrol cars trying to break up fights, multiple people began jumping on top of police vehicles. Others stood around to film the incident and post it on social media.
Many people we spoke with tell us this event may have stemmed from Ram Fest, taking place at Winston-Salem State University.
We reached out to the school that said, "This event was not associated with Winston-Salem State University or its official Ram Fest."
Police said eventually, multiple units on the scene were able to disperse the crowd.
The patrol vehicle had minor damage.
No injuries were reported. No arrests have been made at this point.
The investigation is ongoing.
