GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's not just you. The pollen is sky high, and it's coating everything in sight. We're in peak pollen season right now, but when does it start to come to an end?
Wednesday set the mark for the highest pollen count of 2019 so far. That's according to the Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection. We're lucky here in the Triad that they take a real measurement of the allergens in the air every weekday.
Unfortunately, we're not going to see any improvement over the next few days. Dry, sunny, and breezy weather is a perfect recipe for high pollen - while cool, wet weather offers a better chance at seeing some relief. Here's the forecast through the weekend, which keeps us in the Very High and High range for tree pollen.
But this doesn't last forever, so when can we expect to see some relief? Well, typically this is the worst that it gets. Mid-April is our prime season for tree pollen. It usually starts trending down by the end of the month, and really winds down through May. During summer it's more about grass pollen and weed pollen.
The timeline below is just a general guide. If anything, we're a few weeks ahead of schedule this year. If that holds, we could be breathing a bit easier by the end of the month.
