HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. — The Henderson County Rescue Squad called in help from a few furry friends on their search mission in Bat Cave earlier this week.
Human remain detection (HRD) dogs from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management were deployed to western North Carolina per the request of the Henderson County Rescue Squad.
There, the dogs could be seen crossing a river at Bat Cave while strapped to a "highline." According to a post from the Henderson County Rescue Squad, the rigging system "allows for safe and efficient access across dangerous conditions for patients and rescuers."
The dogs aided search efforts as the rescue squad looked to find victims and bring closure to families of victims of Hurricane Helene.
