WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — It's no secret that it is officially flu season. One person starts coughing and suddenly the whole household is sick.
Due to the risks respiratory illnesses pose, Novant Health is implementing the following guidelines starting on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 7 a.m.
Visitor Guidance:
- Kids under 13 are asked to not visit Novant Health hospitals to reduce the spread of respiratory viruses
- Asked to stay home unless it is under special circumstances like end-of-life care
- Masks are optional for visitors
- If you're sick stay home. Kids 13 and under experiencing flu-like symptoms should not visit patients
- People seeking treatment at hospitals will be asked to wear a mask
Community Considerations:
- Stay home when you're sick, wash your hands, and cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing
- Get vaccinated against the flu, RSV (for children and senior citizens) and COVID-19
When it's time to see a doctor, be sure to seek the appropriate level of care:
- Only visit emergency departments in the event of serious or life-threatening illness or injury
- Same-day or next-day sick visits are offered by Novant. Use these when you need medical attention for routine cough, fever, fatigue and other flu-like symptoms, see your primary care clinician
- Urgent care and virtual care should be used by patients older than 6 months and appointments can be scheduled online. Video visits are available to both adult and pediatric patients 24/7
- Order free-at-home COVID-19 tests. Everyone U.S. home is eligible to order them. Click here.
