GREENSBORO, N.C. — North Carolina A&T State University partnered with Cone Health for a wellness fair on Saturday, June 29.
The two held a Building a Better You community wellness fair to address East Greensboro's 15-year life expectancy gap.
According to organizers the event screened for silent killers -- such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and blood sugar.
One leader says this is their way of trying to prevent these chronic diseases before it's too late.
"This is our way of going upstream to be able to prevent those complications of the chronic diseases that are actually treatable," said Olu Jegede, the Vice President for Health Equity at Cone Health.
Leaders say the wellness fair is a part of the CATCH in 5 initiative, aimed at closing the life expectancy gap by 5 years in 5 years.
