So far this year, 107 people have contracted the measles across the United States, according to the CDC.
That includes North Carolina
While the state does require children that enroll in child care facilities and public schools to have their measles vaccination, but children can be exempted either for a medical or religious reason.
The CDC says there are 4 things parents need to know about measles:
- Measles can be serious
- Measles is very contagious
- Your child can still get measles in the U.S.
- You have the power to protect your child against measles with a safe and effective vaccine
Doctors warn that not getting vaccinated could have serious consequences.
According to the CDC, these are the dates of the outbreak and the states: From January 1 to July 14, 2018, 107 people from 21 states (Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington) and the District of Colombia were reported to have measles.
