Saturday coronavirus updates: State parks in NC open under certain restrictions

GREENSBORO, N.C. — WFMY News 2 is providing daily coronavirus updates with the latest information from emergency leaders, the state's task force, health departments, universities, school districts, and a lot more.

SATURDAY, MAY 9, 2020

8:30 p.m. - State parks in North Carolina have reopened under certain restrictions.

State parks in North Carolina which were ordered closed under the stay-at-home order, reopened Saturday under certain restrictions.

Parks such as Pilot Mountain State Park and Hanging Rock State Park are now open but are open with some areas still closed.

6:30 p.m. - WFMY News 2 snapped these photos of long lines at the TJ Maxx on Battleground Ave. and the Costco on Wendover Ave. in Greensboro. 

Many businesses have reopened under Phase 1 of the reopening plan.

Key things to know Saturday:

  • Surry County Health and Nutrition Center, in partnership with Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital of Elkin (HCMH) and Northern Regional Hospital (NRH) of Mount Airy, to offer mass testing for COVID-19 on Monday. This event will be a collaborative effort to increase access to COVID-19 testing within our county and gain a better understanding of how this pandemic is affecting our communities.

  • High Point City Lake Pool will remain closed for the summer
  •  Firehouse Subs donates 16 pickle buckets to be filled with hand sanitizer and will help first responders.
