5 sets of twins born in 12 hours at Cone Health Women's and Children's Center

The hospital said they normally see two or three sets of twins born each week.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Staff at the Cone Health Women's & Children's Center at Moses Cone Hospital had an abnormally busy day Wednesday.

In a release, the hospital said it delivered five — yes, FIVE — sets of twins in a 12-hour period. The first pair came into the world at 8:25 a.m., while the last made their debut right before 8 p.m.

“As best as we can tell, this has to be a Cone Health record,” Cone Health Women’s & Children’s Center Nursing Director Amy Skrinjar said. “It can be an exhausting 12 hours, but all of the babies are healthy, and it’s been a time for celebrating.”

Skrinjar has been helping deliver babies at Cone Health since 2007.

Hospital officials said they normally see two or three sets of twins born in a single week. The last time something like this happened was in 2022, when five sets of twins were born at the hospital on July 5.

Of the 10 children born Wednesday, nine were girls and one was a boy. All the children and their mothers are doing well.
