How to protect your skin in cold temperatures

We asked a doctor the best way to protect your skin. Here’s what she said.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Winter-like temperatures are here. The cold weather can bring dry, flaky, and itchy skin. Health experts say it's important to stay moisturized.

We spoke to Dr. Claire Dillingham with Cone Health plastic surgery specialists. Here are the tips she shared to keep your skin healthy.

Dr. Dillingham says to make sure to keep your face clean. She recommends you wash your face before bed.

She says to avoid using a new skin product directly before going to an event. You never know if your skin might react negatively to a product.

Dr. Dillingham recommends to always consult a dermatologist before applying skin care. Everyone has different type of skin texture and color. Plus, people have different goals for what they want their skin to look like. A product your friends uses may not be right for you.

She also recommends skin care products as gifts. Something simple, like a nice face soap, makes a great present.

Products that have a lot of alcohol may dry your skin out. Dr. Dillingham recommends using hydrating products.
