MARION, IL -- The Greensboro Colt All-Stars needed a win in Illinois Monday to stay alive in the 2018 Colt World Series.
The All-Stars took on the hosts from Southern Illinois in an elimination game.
Greensboro gave up six runs in the top of the 2nd inning and fell behind 7-0 early. The All-Stars would score five unanswered runs but could not complete the rally.
They fell to Southern Illinois 7-5 and have been eliminated from the Colt World Series.
The Colt All-Stars have been to the tournament a record 27 times.
Greensboro is still looking to win the club's first Colt World Series since 1965.
The team is made up of players ages 16 and under from Guilford, Rockingham and Alamance counties.
