A potential life-saving medical device developed by a team from UNC-Greensboro is a step closer to coming to fruition.
A $250,000 injection from a National Science Foundation small business innovation research grant will allow 3i NanoTech, Inc., based at Gateway Research Park in Greensboro to explore mass production methods to bring its hand-held diagnostic device to market.
Taylor Mabe helped develop the device, which measures levels of the human protein biomarker troponin, an indicator of someone having a heart attack.
Mabe, along with UNCG professor Jianjun Wei at UNCG and N.C. A&T State University’s Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering at Gateway University Research Park, developed the company about a year ago.
