McLean, VA -- Gannett Co., the nation's largest newspaper publisher, said Thursday that its board has elected CEO Craig Dubow as its new chairman, replacing Douglas McCorkindale, who is retiring from the board and the company effective Friday. McCorkindale, 67, had worked for Gannett for 35 years. He had previously served as CEO and was succeeded in that role by Dubow in July 2005. Dubow, 51, had previously headed Gannett's broadcasting business. Gannett publishes 90 daily newspapers in the United States, including USA Today, the largest-selling daily. The company also operates 22 television stations in the United States and owns Newsquest, the second-largest regional newspaper company in the United Kingdom.
