ID=28952253 GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A well-known Greensboro developer is discussing the possibility of building a new tower downtown that would be the tallest yet. Roy Carroll said it's called Project 561, named after it's proposed height of 561 feet.

If the tower is built, it would be much taller than the Lincoln Financial Building, which stands at 233 feet.

Carroll said he thinks it would be 28 stories made up mostly of office space with a potential hotel component. Carroll said he thinks it would sit on top of a six-story parking structure.

Carroll did not talk about a timeline for the project.

Downtown Greensboro is also seeing new leaders. Zack Matheny announced Thursday afternoon that he is the new President and CEO of Downtown Greensboro, Inc. This comes after he resigned from the city council earlier this week.

"Three years from now you're not going to be able to recognize Greensboro at least downtown Greensboro. Our goal and my goal is to work with our board to take it to the next level so everybody sees the return in investment," Matheny said.

He said Greensboro's downtown is lacking the "cool factor" and needs to be more "lush." He said his model city would be Greenville, South Carolina.

"I think the first thing is tying up my shoes and going on a walk and go to meet everybody. Introduce myself to those that don't know me and get to know those that I don't know," Matheny said.

He said he's got lots of ideas, but wants to discuss them with the group's board first.
