A southern boy, born and bred – a man of faith – and a Triad advocate. Emmy-nominated journalist Frank Mickens has built his career on character and the quest for truth. Frank was born in Jackson, MS. But he found it appropriate to trade the heat and humidity of his hometown for snow at Syracuse University where he earned his degree in broadcast journalism.

Since joining WFMY News 2 in 2003, he's been a beat reporter, investigative reporter, and a noon and morning anchor. He is currently the evening anchor for WFMY News 2 at 5, 6 and 11 p.m.

Perhaps his proudest moment as a journalist was a result of circumstance. After hearing about how few African-American children know how to swim, he decided to organize a free program for local children. Since 2008, more than 300 kids have been trained to swim for free.

Frank is also the minister of evangelism at World Victory International Christian Center where he plans initiatives to introduce people to the love and saving grace of Jesus Christ.

The Associated Press has recognized Frank with several awards for his journalism, including wins in the general news, spot news, and documentary categories. In his time away from work, he enjoys reading, travel, cooking and date nights with his wife. Most recently, he even dared to sign up for an adult soccer league, despite his creaking knees! The couple are the proud parents of a girl and two boys.
