GREENSBORO, NC – "It's bad how he went out you know? He deserves better than that, he really did."

A son is heartbroken after the murder of 74-year-old Larry Brown.

Police say three teenagers were just driving around at 5:00 in the morning last Wednesday, when they attacked and robbed Brown on Greenbriar Road in Greensboro.

Investigators say the suspects were not on drugs and the crime is not gang affiliated.

Police say what they stole was of "minimal value."

One week later, his family is remembering a man who loved wrestling, fishing, and his family.

On Wednesday, WFMY News 2 interviewed his only son, on the day after the three teenagers were arrested.

One of the suspects turned 17 Wednesday.

Lonnie Brown is Larry Brown's only son.

He was clearly upset about the murder of his father but he managed to stay calm and composed during the interview.

He just wants to know why anyone take his dad away from him.

"Just really sad because they took his life and ruined ours, too," said Lonnie Brown. "They took a good man from everybody you know what I mean. My heart is broken. I wish I would've spent more time with him."

Lonnie Brown says a prayer for his late father Larry Eugene Brown -- while standing over a makeshift memorial made by neighbors and friends.

"He always helped everybody out," he said. "He had a ton of friends."

It's been a tough year for Lonnie Brown. His younger sister died of a heart condition and then tragedy struck last week.

Police say a 14 year old girl, a 15 year old boy and 17 year old D'Angelo Matthews robbed and killed his father.

Investigators say the teenagers were just driving down the road when they decided to attack the man who was headed to the bus stop.

WFMY News 2's Ben Powell asked Lonnie Brown, "Do you think you'll ever be able to forgive?"

"I don't know, we will have to see down the road here, you know," Brown replied. "My heart is broken. It meant the world to me. He tried to treat everybody good."

Larry Brown stressed the importance of education to his children and 4 grandchildren.

His son always looked up to him.

"He taught me everything," said Brown. "He made me work hard for what I got."

Lonnie just wishes he had a little more time.

"I love you. You mean the world to me," he said, speaking to his father. "And I wouldn't take nothing for you. That is for sure."

Police are also looking at other crimes the teenagers might have committed -- before Larry Brown's death, including cases of vandalism.

Larry Brown's funeral is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. at the Philadelphia Baptist Church in Greensboro.
