GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Anyone who drives by the Greensboro Science Center knows there is an expansion coming.
Barricades surround the Wiseman Aquarium, so the area of expansion is obvious. But until now, guests have been left wondering what is coming to the aquarium.
The Greensboro Science Center revealed exclusively on WFMY News 2's Good Morning Show Thursday that the new expansion is a 5,000 square-foot space that will hold 16 new animal exhibits -- primarily for different species of fish and jelly fish.
The expansion also will include a 4,000-gallon Indo-Pacific reef with rainbow fish and corals. It's also starting an interactive learning experience about conservation. Guests will get to use giant finger-touch iPads and interaction walls that will encourage them to think deeply about conservation.
"The expansion is about more than seeing fish in tanks," said Greensboro Science Center's VP of Education, Martha Regester.
Regester said as of now, the expansion is on track to open in December 2016.
The Greensboro Science Center has other events and opportunities available before then.
Pajama Jam family night is Thursday, March 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for members, $12 for non-members and are free for kids two and younger.
Volunteer applications are due April 15. Applications are also available for both summer and year-round jobs. Sign up on the Greensboro Science Center's website.
