WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools approved a longevity supplement in an effort to retain classified workers in the district.
The supplement will raise the pay for many people who previously started in the $15 per hour salary range — this supplement comes as an addition to the raises approved in November.
The district said they are hoping to reward hard-working employees for all their years of dedication to the school system.
What is a longevity supplement?
A supplement becomes a permanent part of an employee's pay based on years of service. The supplement is not a bonus because it's not a one-time thing.
How does it work?
The district said the supplement will provide a 1% increase for every three years of service with WS/FCS. For example, someone who spends three years with the district will receive a 1% increase in their salary, and in the sixth year, they will see a 2% increase on top of their current pay rate.
Below is an example of what the increases would look like over the years.
0-2 Years 0.00%
3-5 Years 1.00%
6-8 Years 2.00%
9-11 Years 3.00%
12-14 Years 4.00%
15-17 Years 5.00%
18-20 Years 6.00%
21-23 Years 7.00%
24-26 Years 8.00%
27-29 Years 9.00%
30 plus Years 10.00%
Who are classified employees?
According to the district, classified employees include everyone except, teachers and administration.
The supplement will begin in January 2024.
