Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools are preparing to bring metal detectors to all middle schools in the school district.

At a meeting Tuesday night, the school district approved buying 94 additional metal detectors to backfill their middle schools and their Athletic Facilities.

After a student metal detector survey, 60% of students reported they feel "somewhat" safe and that adding metal detectors will make students feel 55% safer, according to a study from the school district.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools said the metal detectors would be in place in August by the time the students return.

Just like at high schools, the district will start random metal detecting at the middle schools when the new school year begins.

All high schools currently have metal detectors at their entrances.
